How we make money

Best Supplements Index works solely on an affiliate commission model. If you click a product link on this site and buy something, the retailer may pay us a commission. It's important to know that this costs you nothing extra, and the price you pay is the same (or even lower if special discounts are running), as it would be if you had gone to the retailer directly.

We run no display advertising, we do not accept payment for reviews or rankings, and we do not sell sponsored posts.

How commission affects our recommendations

It doesn't. Products are selected and ranked on the criteria described below, and we recommend products that pay us nothing whenever they are the better option. Where a product we rate highly has no affiliate programme, we still name it, and we say so.

Commission rates vary between retailers and brands. We do not weight our rankings towards higher-paying partners, and staff are not told what commission a product carries when they research or draft an article.

How we evaluate supplements

We are a research-led publication, not a testing lab. We do not carry out our own clinical trials or laboratory assays, and we do not claim to. Our assessments are based on:

  • Published human research, with a preference for randomised controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses over animal studies, in-vitro work, or single small trials.
  • Dosage and form, compared against the doses actually used in the research rather than the doses commonly sold.
  • Third-party testing and certification, where a manufacturer publishes it.
  • Manufacturing standards, ingredient transparency, and proprietary blends that hide individual doses.
  • Value, measured per serving at the clinically relevant dose rather than per bottle.

Where the evidence is weak, mixed, or limited to studies funded by the manufacturer, we say so rather than rounding up to a recommendation.

Sources and citations

We cite primary research where we can, and we link to it. Where we rely on a secondary source, we name it. We prioritise peer-reviewed literature, and we note when a study was industry-funded, when a sample size was very small, or when a finding has not been replicated.

Corrections

Research moves, products get reformulated, and we make mistakes. If you find an error, email hello@bestsupplementsindex.com and we will check it. If we correct something material, we update the article and note the change and its date. We do not quietly delete errors.

Articles carry a last-updated date so you can see how current the information is.
