What are the benefits of saw palmetto for women?

Almost all the research is in men, so the honest answer is that nobody knows. Claims about female hair loss and PCOS rest on the DHT theory rather than on trials in women. It should not be taken in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, given its hormonal activity.

Does saw palmetto help with getting up at night to urinate?

No. The large trials measured this specifically and found no benefit over placebo. Getting up repeatedly at night can have several causes worth investigating properly, so a visit to a healthcare professional is a far better option.

Saw palmetto or biotin for hair?

They work in completely different ways. Biotin only helps if you are deficient, which is uncommon, while saw palmetto is aimed at the DHT pathway. And neither replaces finding out why your hair is thinning, which could have a treatable, underlying cause.

Can you take saw palmetto and finasteride together?

Both are said to act on the same enzyme, so combining them is not obviously useful, and the pairing has not been studied properly. It's worth checking with your doctor as finasteride is usually prescribed, and interactions should be avoided.

Does saw palmetto affect libido?

The reports are inconsistent, and sexual side effects were no more common than placebo in the large trials. That is reassuring, but the evidence does not let you predict either way.

Is saw palmetto safe for long-term use?

Leading saw palmetto benefit trials ran up to 72 weeks with no evidence of toxicity, longer than most supplement research manages. Beyond that, data is limited, so nobody can tell you what years of daily use looks like.

Should you take saw palmetto with zinc?

Zinc turns up in a lot of prostate blends, and the blend itself is the thing worth checking. These products often contain far less saw palmetto than used in trials, so you may be paying for a fraction of a dose that failed anyway.
