Privacy and cookie policy

1. Who we are
Best Supplements Index ("we", "us", "our") operates the website www.bestsupplementsindex.com (the "Site"). We publish research-led articles and comparisons about dietary supplements, and we may earn commissions when readers buy products through links on the Site.
The Site is a read-only publication. There are no user accounts, no newsletter, no contact forms, no comments, and no other feature that asks you to submit personal information. You can read everything we publish without giving us anything.
We do still receive a limited amount of data automatically when you visit, as any website does, and this policy explains what that is. We have readers in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and the United States, and this policy sets out your rights under each of those regimes.
You can contact us at hello@bestsupplementsindex.com.
2. What we collect
Collected automatically when you visit
- Your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, and screen size.
- The pages you visit, how long you spend on them, what you click, and which site referred you to us.
- Approximate location, derived from your IP address at country or city level. We do not collect precise location.
- Cookie identifiers and similar technologies, as described in section 3.
If you email us
We publish an email address so you can exercise your privacy rights or raise a query. If you write to us, we hold your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message, and we use it only to reply.
What we never collect
We do not collect names, postal addresses, payment details, or account credentials, because there is nowhere on the Site to enter them. We do not ask for health information, and you should not send us details of any medical condition, diagnosis, medication, or symptoms. If you include health details in an email, we will use them only to reply and will delete them once the matter is closed. Nothing on the Site is medical advice, and we are not a healthcare provider.
3. Cookies and tracking
We use the following categories of cookies and similar technology:
- Essential. Needed for the Site to function, for example to remember your cookie preferences. These cannot be switched off.
- Analytics. Help us understand which articles are read and how people navigate the Site. We use Google Analytics.
- Affiliate tracking. When you click a product link, our affiliate partners set cookies that let them attribute a resulting purchase to us. These cookies are set and controlled by the retailer or affiliate network, not by us. Their duration varies by partner, commonly between 24 hours and 90 days.
We do not run display advertising on the Site, and we do not use advertising, retargeting, or social media tracking cookies.
Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
4. Affiliate links and third-party sites
The Site contains affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.
Once you leave the Site, the retailer's own privacy policy governs what they collect and how they use it. We have no control over those sites and are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to read their policies before providing personal data or making a purchase.
Commission does not influence our editorial judgement. See our Editorial Policy page for more on how we work.
5. How we use this data
We use the limited data we receive to:
- Measure and analyse how the Site is used, so we can improve our content and navigation.
- Track affiliate referrals and reconcile commissions with our partners.
- Maintain the security of the Site, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical faults.
- Reply if you have emailed us.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal data, we do not build profiles about you, and we do not use your data to make automated decisions about you.
6. Legal bases for processing (UK and EU visitors)
Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew.
7. Who we share data with
We share data only with service providers who process it on our behalf, and only as far as needed to do their job:
- Website hosting and content delivery: Namecheap
- Analytics: Google Analytics
- Email hosting, for correspondence sent to our published address: Namecheap
Each is bound by contract to keep data confidential and to process it only on our instructions.
We may also disclose data where we are legally required to do so, or where it is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, or to protect the rights and safety of others.
If the Site or its assets are ever sold or transferred, this data may be transferred as part of that transaction.
8. International transfers
Some of our providers are based outside the UK and European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or an adequacy decision covering the receiving country. You can request details of the safeguards in place by contacting us.
9. How long we keep data
- Analytics data: 14 months
- Server and security logs: 30 days
- Email correspondence: 2 months after the matter is closed.
- Records we must keep for tax or accounting reasons: as long as the law requires.
10. Your rights
If you are in the UK or EEA, you have the right to: access the data we hold about you; have inaccurate data corrected; have your data erased; restrict or object to processing; receive your data in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Spain this is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es); in the UK it is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request deletion or correction, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information as that term is defined by the CCPA, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, because we do not run advertising on the Site. We honour Global Privacy Control signals where our systems detect them.
Residents of other US states with comprehensive privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah and Texas, have broadly similar rights to access, correct, delete and opt out.
To exercise any right, email hello@bestsupplementsindex.com. We will respond within one month, or within 45 days for US requests. Because we hold no account or contact records, we may be unable to identify data relating to you from an access or deletion request unless you can supply information that lets us locate it, such as the IP address and approximate dates of your visits. We will explain this to you if it applies.
11. Children
The Site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. Since the Site offers no way to submit information, this is unlikely to arise, but if you believe a child's data has reached us, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Security
We use HTTPS across the Site and take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the data we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that is likely to result in a high risk to your rights, we will notify you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If we add any feature that collects information directly from you, we will update this policy before that feature goes live.
